White Plains is an historic farm located just north of Port Conway and the Rappahannock River in King George County, Virginia. The property was established by the Thornley Family in the 18th century and was once over 1100 acres. The current house at White Plains, built in 1786 and confirmed through dendrochronological dating, has been preserved by many generations of caring stewards.
The current owners purchased the property in 2013, carefully preserving and restoring each element of the original house in addition to important land management work.
This blog is about life on the farm, the search to uncover its history, and the journey to preserve it for future generations.
